Symposium on High Underwater Sounds from Humans - SHUSH

We imagine the oceans as peaceful places, a paradise full of freedom and abundance. But the reality is quite different because of the pressures of human economic activities. These generate underwater noise which radiates in great depths. For the past 50 years, acoustic observatories have been deployed and studies have made it possible to estimate the effects of these anthropic sounds on marine ecosystems.

Today, the question is not to stop human activities, but to develop solutions that aim to reduce these impacts on the environment. Technical solutions already exist and are deployed. Others are to be invented and tested quickly. Because the next few years will be decisive. More than ever, we must protect the oceans.

This virtual symposium SHUSH brings together professionals, engineers, researchers and students from industry, universities, research institutes, government organisations and NGOs, working on ocean noises and their potential effects.

The goal is to provide a forum to share current and future solutions for mitigating the underwater noise. This symposium will also encourage interdisciplinary collaborations to stimulate efficient decisions to reduce our impact on the oceans.
